The Nomad Cohousing community in Boulder, Colorado is a small urban cohousing development featuring 11 units on 1 acre, in north Boulder. The mission of Nomad Cohousing, which was completed in 1997, is to create "a housing community which fosters both independence and interdependence. To create a community which assures a safe and nurturing environment for all, creates a sense of extended family, utilizes environmentally sound design and materials and allows for the sharing of resources." The community is an example of sustainable design; the homes have a passive solar orientation, are energy efficient and incorporate a wide range of natural, recycled, and non-toxic materials.
The community is currently comprised of 20 adults and 10 children. Residents participate in the Norwood neighborhood eco-pass public transit program. Nomad also manages a neighborhood composting program. Other site features include a courtyard, fountain, community garden and play area.
